Year round programs available for all grades

The Academy of Early Learning is a co-educational, private preschool and elementary school accredited by the State of Massachusetts and the Town of Barnstable. Established in 1978, the school has expanded to serve pre-k through grade 4 at our Falmouth Road campus, a private, 3+ acre park-like setting conveniently located 1 mile from the Cape Cod Mall and downtown Hyannis.

Small class size and one-on-one learning are
hallmarks of our program.

Philosophy
The Academy of Early Learning is dedicated to recognizing and appreciating the individuality of each child while providing instruction by teachers outstanding in their ability to teach. We believe in assisting each child to gently 'stretch' to fulfill his or her potential - academically, emotionally, socially and physically - by presenting as many different opportunities as possible in an intellectually stimulating, supportive and value-based environment. At The Academy of Early Learning all children can succeed and feel a sense of accomplishment.

If children are happy and comfortable in the classroom,
learning will come easily and naturally.

Curriculum

Our program from preschool through grade four is a proven and successful combination of traditional and new teaching methodologies. Our course of study includes reading, mathematics, language arts, science, social studies, aesthetics, music, art and physical education. We test both formally and informally to assess progress in each area.

Preschool
The Academy of Early Learning provides a warm and supportive academic-based preschool program designed to address each child's developmental stage in a comfortable, small group setting. Growth of the whole child - emotionally, socially, intellectually and physically - is paramount.  We believe that encouraging each child's natural sense of curiosity and wonder helps to create the building blocks necessary for lifelong learning success.

Areas of study are designed around monthly themes and include reading and math readiness, beginning science, social studies, language arts, physical education as well as music, art and drama. Children participate in group discussions and especially enjoy Show n' Tell, circle time activities with their friends, visits to the library and Children's Museum, special guests and more! Daily walks, storytime and hands-on play further stimulate each child's imagination, thinking and fine-motor skills.

Kindergarten
Emphasis in all grades continues to be placed on the whole child and his or her academic and emotional development. Our teachers and curriculum provide experiences that engage and motivate the hands, minds and imaginations of our students. Each subject area had broad learning goals that provide a continuum in which students build upon their understanding of larger concepts, further develop their skills and talents, and practically apply their knowledge.

Kindergarten courses include reading and math skills, introductory science and social studies, language arts, penmanship, spelling, sentence structure, music, art, physical education, as well as an introduction to creative writing, in a structured and highly supportive environment. Our curriculum is designed to ensure that each child has the academic and social foundation necessary for a happy and successful transition into early elementary grades. Field trips and guest speakers enrich the program and provide real-life context for our student's studies.

Elementary
Elementary grades focus on a continued mastery of the above subjects in a structures and sequential manner with a strong concentration in phonics, phonological awareness and grammar. Our teachers foster a love of reading and writing in our students and practice skills on a daily basis. Our science and mathematics programs emphasize critical thinking and problem solving. History, social studies and geography lessons highlight the students' relation to the Cape Cod community and larger world. Field trips to Heritage Plantation, Battleship Cove and guest speakers reinforce these lessons. Technology is integrated into classroom studies through recognized educational software programs that also reinforce important basic computer skills.
