Groundhog Day was February 2nd - The vote was in. Phil saw his shadow and there will be 6 more weeks of winter!!!

Kindergarten - Mrs. Mary Lyons, Mrs. Ouimet

Reading: Continues to progress for all students in our basic reading Program "S.R.A." at varied levels in A1-D.

Math: – We'll be counting from 7-16 or 18, classifying, matching, more, fewer, solving, given problems and doing a 2nd higher level unit on time and money.

Language: Will feature adjectives; review of verbs and punctuation. We're continuing to construct creative sentences and paragraphs. We're also working on the copying of poems and titles correctly.

Penmanship: Is exhibiting better formation and fluency for most students.

Social Science: We've done a mini-unit on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Life is an ongoing concept in our curriculum and is taught at more sophisticated levels as the academic year progresses.

Science: We're working on a Weather Unit. This month has been ideal for this unit with the varied weather conditions! We are also working in our basic science series in "Modular C" which includes Matter, Sound & Movement.

We commend the Parents for their consistency and cooperation with the students' homework. We have 100% returns almost every a.m. BRAVO! Thanks to Natalie Grandaw for her donations of pencils and cupcakes to her classmates on her birthday and also for the white poster boards. Parents, if you are interested in speaking to your childs' class about your talents or occupation, please let us know when you'd like to come in some day in the afternoon.

As many of you are already aware, Mrs. Ouimet is now in the Kindergarten Room four a.m.'s a week for 2 hours per day. Mrs. Ouimet's dedication, consistency and interest in the students and our school system exhibits this in everything she does in the classroom. Already aware of the routine (from the times her children were in our Kindergarten room), Mrs. Ouimet acclimated to the schedule, routine and the student's needs in just 1-2 days! The students are very happy and comfortable with her. She's done a GREAT job with the reading already! We're very fortunate and happy to have Mrs. Ouimet with us.

First Grade - Mrs. Sue Kenney

February - the shortest yet the busiest month. February 7th is our grade 1 100th day of school. We will be celebrating by making 100 Day Trail Mix... and doing 100 minutes of Puzzles and Games. Lots of math will be done on this day. Groundhog saw his shadow! Yikes! Some of our great presidents celebrate birthdays this month. We will take a close look at their lives and contributions. February is National Heart and Dental Health month and we will discuss how to keep both our hearts and our teeth healthy. Valentine's Day is coming, be ready... the class list is out. Vacation follows Valentines Day! Enjoy! Read! Read! 5 books during vacation! Math finds us working on Word Problems, counting by tens, fives, and twos... along with continuing place value. The children had a great time skating and look forward to the next skating date Friday, the 28th. Thank you for all who helped. A special thanks to my mom helpers. Your time and energy are appreciated. It is wonderful to have the help and support.

Second Grade - Mrs. Maureen Coffin

Grade 2 will be having a very busy month. Second Grade will celebrate our 100th day of school on February 13. We will be doing several activities centered on the number 100. Each child will be bringing into school a collection of 100 small items. February 14th will be our Valentine's Day celebration. The children will exchange cards and have a small party with grade 3. Please see the sign-up sheet posted on the 2nd grade door. We will discuss our two famous presidents, Washington and Lincoln. The children have many questions about these great leaders. We will study our universe, focusing on the planets, answering such questions as: How large are they? What do they look like? Where are they located? And how far are they from the sun? Please review time and money with your child at home. Next will be measurement! Watch for the start of our in class Read-A-Thon next month! Have a safe and enjoyable winter break.

3rd Grade - Mrs. Rosario

February may be short, but we are busy in third grade learning about many different and exciting things.

We are celebrating Black History Month and learning about many different famous African-Americans. We started off the month by celebrating Groundhog Day. The third graders were all excited to know they guessed correctly about Punxsutawney Phil seeing his shadow! We are continuing to learn our multiplication facts and we are starting to learn how to multiply double digit numbers. Please continue to help your children study their facts. Valentine's Day is right around the corner as well as February vacation. We are looking forward to celebrating Valentine's Day together and sharing goodies and having fun on the 14th. The third grade hopes everyone has a wonderful vacation!

4th Grade - Mrs. Paquin

The children in fourth grade were delighted to have the first issue of "Fourth Grade News" published. They learned so much in the process and are grateful to our volunteer Mrs. Felegian for her guidance. We have been studying many aspects of water in science and are beginning reports on different facets of the sea and sea life. The Northeast is the next area of concentration in social science. That should be a breeze for us! Some of the students already know all of the states and their capitals. Let's make sure the rest of us learn those perfectly! We are so looking forward to Spring!
