HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!!!

Happy Thanksgiving

OCTOBER was a wonderful month of class work, special art projects and a great trip to Heritage Plantation. Here's some personal notes from our teachers as to what's happened and what's coming up in NOVEMBER.

Kindergarten ClassKindergarten - Mrs. Mary Lyons

Pre-reading and reading skills are developing very nicely.

Math will entail classification, positions and pattern concepts and the numbers in sequence to 75.

Language will feature the introduction of nouns .

Penmanship will focus on all of the lower case alphabet.

Social Science will continue on the concepts of self and families.

Modular I will continue in Science.

On November 6, David Hobbs, Pilgrim, will visit our classroom. November 13 a speaker from the Zooquarium will visit the classroom and bring an animal to learn about. On the 13th, we will also have a McDonald's lunch in the classroom. November art will feature Mrs. Garcia visiting the classroom to do art with the class.

Our trip to Heritage Plantation was time, effort and cost well-spent. Our guide gave us an excellent educational tour into history. The students were fascinated and learned so much. Their behavior and uniforms also received many comments from other visitors. We are already looking forward to January when some members of the Heritage Plantation staff pay a visit to our classroom.

Thank you PAC and thank you Mrs. Toppin for the ziplock bags! Many thanks to Mr. & Mrs. Bryant for coming into the classroom, supplying and doing a beautiful art project with the students. And Thanks to Ms. Rounds for cutting the Witch Hats patterns for the students -- a lot of work!

Tip 1. One of our students is highly allergic to NUTS. Please do NOT send in any baked goods during the year which contain nuts.

Tip 2. Please help your student to know their age, house #, street & town for SAFETY and report card reasons.

First gradeFirst Grade - Mrs. Sue Kenney

Everyone is working hard on their address. Spelling and phonics find us on short 'u', and then we will review all short vowels. We are adding and subtracting. Keep on practicing. We are using pennies, 1c, and nickels, 5c - so get your change out.

Trees are our topic in Science as we watch the leaves change and fall.

Rules and Laws are being discussed in Social Studies. Wearing your seatbelt is a LAW.

We are looking forward to Thanksgiving Projects...and our special visitor this month.

At Heritage Plantation our 1st graders were sad to say good-bye to our Tour Guide. She told us so many exciting and interesting myths about each artifact. We truly enjoyed the day!

Thank you to Mr. Van Kleef for coming into our class to do a Halloween Project. "What an Art Teacher!" The children thoroughly enjoyed the special activities of decorating festive cakes and making Holiday Magnets. There is a lot of talent out there -- so don't be shy! Thank you to Mr. Grandaw (Sam's Dad) for coming in to tell the children about being a Firefighter. October is Fire Prevention Month and the 1st graders have gained a lot of knowledge about what to do if they are in a fire or any emergency. SAFETY IS THE KEY!

Kindergarten Class2nd Grade - Mrs. Maureen Coffin

During the month of November, the second grade will be discussing Thanksgiving. We will be concentrating on the theme of 'giving' and the history that led up to the First Thanksgiving.

Academically, we will continue to study vowel sounds, synonyms, antonyms, syllables and parts of speech. We will begin to discuss action verbs and linking verbs.

In science, we are talking about 'forces' and we will soon begin experiments involving magnets.

We have begun to learn about communities and neighbors in Social Science, but will continue our discussion of Maps. The children have been working on labeling a blank map of the United States, writing the states and their capitals. The second graders are very busy!

A special thanks to Mrs. Toppin who came into our classroom to do a fall and Halloween project with the children. They made 'caramel candy apples' and stenciled wooden pumpkins with Halloween pictures. These pumpkins were hand carved by the talented hands of Mrs. Toppin! We enjoyed our activity!

Also, thank you to our mother helpers who devote their time to our classroom, Mrs. Caston, Mrs. Little and Mrs. Ouimet.

First grade3rd, 4th, 5th Grades - Mrs. Rosario & Mr. Campbell

November is going to be a great month for learning. We are doing some really terrific activities. Of course, we will be learning about Thanksgiving but we are also starting some long-term projects that will take us a month to finish! Please feel free to ask your children about the quilt and orange pomander projects.

Children are coming along smoothly with their studies including multiplication, division, reading and social studies. Heritage Plantation was great! We had so much fun with our tour guide Erik. We all, of course, loved the carousel but we also enjoyed the informational aspect of the tour including the whaling exhibit and the antique cars! The class all made beautiful thank you notes with pictures of their favorite things at the Heritage Plantation for Erik. We are all looking forward to next year's trip already!

As you know we are memorizing multiplication tables. Please help your child by encouraging them to practice every day. Thanks for all the help with the Halloween parade and party!
