Early Learning Press
December 2002
This is the time of year, when we think of family, friends, peace on earth
and goodwill to all. As we bring this eventful year to a close, we would like
to take the opportunity to wish you and your family a peaceful and joyous
holiday season.
Registration has been sent home for the 2003-2004 school year. As a reminder,
please return your registration for next year.
I want to thank all of the staff for their hard work in making this school year the very best. Best wishes
for the holiday season.
See you in January.
Jack and Bonnie Cooper
Kindergarten - Mrs. Mary Lyons
The students have continued to make wonderful progress in all areas of
the curriculum.
Most students have already begun working in their 2nd math text. They
were very successful with their unit on time and money-so early on in the school year!
We have put a stronger emphasis on the basic types of sentences, paragraphs, and
punctuation-beginning in October this year. We think this concept will be for better
developed and beneficial for those entering our First Grade in September 2003.
The students now have pattern spelling words-assignments on Monday nights and are
also responsible for three basic type sentences on Tuesday nights with a strong
emphasis on creativity and punctuation. Better spellers make better readers. (We
already have several students reading at a 1st Grade level.) They’re all making wonderful
progress and very happy with their achievements.
Thanks to Mrs. White for going with us on our Field Trip to the Nutcracker also, to Mrs.
Kantzelis for the “goodies” for Thanksgiving and Christmas. To Kevin Agostinelli for the
Birthday Pizza lunch for the class and to Laura Sirhal for her Birthday treat of cupcakes
for the class. And to all the other parents who support and treat us in so many positive
ways! THANKS!
Happy Holidays to all.
First Grade - Mrs. Sue Kenney
Wow... what a super feast we had with grades 2-3-4. Thanks for everyone’s help!
We are starting our blends in Phonics and Spelling. We will start to measure in inches
and the children will continue to measure in inches during the holiday break. Rules and
worksheets will be sent home. Computer class is going great with Mrs. Felegian and
Mrs. Turowetz. Thanks for your time. A noun is a person, place or thing. Nouns should
be circled in each spelling sentence on Tuesday’s homework. Also, a verb is an action
word (something you can do). Underline your verbs.
The children will be caroling on the playground area at 2 p.m. on Friday December 13th.
Come and join us. Don’t forget your recipes-due on Monday…cookies are due on Friday.
Our Hanukkah Presentation was very informative. The children enjoyed trying the
festive foods and playing Dreidel. Thank you Mrs. Goldin.
Joy and peace to all.
Second Grade - Mrs. Maureen Coffin
Grade 2 enjoyed their Thanksgiving activities. The Pilgrims,
Grade 2, joined the Native Americans, for a Thanksgiving feast.
They were thankful for many things which included family, love,
friends, shelter, food and peace. Thank you to all the parents
who contributed to our feast.
During the first weeks of December, we will be focusing on
different holiday traditions.
Thank you Mrs. Goldin for coming into school on Monday, December 2nd. Mrs. Goldin
met with grades 1-4 and spoke about the traditions of Hanukkah. The children ate
Latkes and played the dreidel game with Gelt!
3rd Grade - Mrs. Rosario
First I would like to thank everyone for joining together in our room for the Thanksgiving
feast. My class worked so hard to set our room up to fit 32 kids! We all fit thankfully!
Everyone was very good and everyone said some wonderful things that they were
thankful for.
In December we are planning on doing many interesting assignments. We will be
exploring different cultures and celebrations. We mad Honey Puff for Hanukkah. We will
do other wonderful projects as well. Thank you to Mrs. Little for her help on Tuesdays
and thank you to Mrs. Goldin for a great presentation about Hanukkah! Have a joyous
winter vacation!!!
Thanks so much for a great year. We are all looking forward to 2003!
4th Grade - Mrs. Paquin
We had a wonderful feast with the rest of the “upper” school prior to the Thanksgiving
break. It was so nice to see the children’s enjoyment of togetherness and abundance!
Thanks to all who contributed.
The children are continuing to work on their newspaper. It has been a worthwhile
endeavor-many thanks to Mrs. Felegian for her help. We hope that our first issue will be
out soon.
Mr. Cooper continues to make visits to the classroom assisting us in Reading for
Understanding and McCall-Crabbs reading. We all look forward to his visits and feel
such a sense of accomplishment.
Many thanks to Mrs. Bernstein for the Hanukkah treats and to Mrs. Goldin for the
wonderful Hanukkah presentation.
REMINDERS
Winter Wonderland is here!! Please bundle the children up for recess. They must have
hat, mittens, snow pants and boots to go outside for recess. School uniform shoes are
still necessary for inside the classroom. Snow pants are required for the days there is
snow in the playground.
Please see the Handbook for details on tardiness. Repeat tardiness is disruptive to the
classroom in progress, all tardy days are recorded.
School begins at 8:10 a.m. for grades 2-4. If the student is early, please don’t send them
into the classrooms. They must remain outside with supervision or remain in their cars
with supervision.
For Kindergarten and Grade 1 teachers allow children in at 7:50 a.m.
Please look over your snow cancellation information sheets.
